A few weeks ago, I posted the embarrassing finding by the Consumer’s Institute of New Zealand that the effectiveness of several sunscreens used here in Godzone didn’t meet their advertised SPF rating.
Now we know why. The ugly truth is out. Stuff has just reported that the US company used to test the sunscreens, AMA Laboratories, has admitted culpability of a multi-decade fraud worth 63 million dollars. They weren’t actually doing the tests they were paid to do.
Thumbs up to our Consumer’s Institute!
Thumbs down to AMA. I hope their sentencing in September will be commensurate with their crime.
We in New Zealand (and Australia) have the world’s highest death rates from skin cancer. I wonder how many have already died - and will die in the future - as a result of AMA’s greed?
