Trump has been trumpeting how Covid-19 cases in New Zealand are “out of control”. Stuff just ran a great article about it with a graph that shows how wrong he is. But you may not have noticed JUST HOW WRONG!!! (to borrow a Trumpism). I’ve reproduced their graph here, but have added a red circle highlighting the problem in New Zealand that he’s ranting on about.
You may not have spotted it, but that tiny upturn in the blue curve for New Zealand is his “out of control community outbreak” (about 0.2 cases per 100,000), while the yellow curve for USA with it’s 20 cases per 100,000 is his “incredible job”. Nearly a hundred times worse. What a wanker.
Today there were 9 new cases in New Zealand (in a population of 5 million), and 2 imported with travellers from abroad (perhaps from USA?). If USA’s rate was the same, they would have had 600 cases. But they actually had 45,000. That’s worse than New Zealand by a factor of 75.
Could somebody please teach Trump some numeracy skills?
It’s all about him, of course, too. He seems to think everybody in New Zealand hates him. He’s wrong about that too. It’s probably only 99 percent or so.
Great comments Richard
