I started writing this on July 26 2021. I hope it’s not out of date by the time it goes out!
Take a look at this paper just published in The Lancet. That’s a seriously good journal. I hope it’s not a bogus paper. I’m a bit suspicious. The journal’s Home Page web site - which is linked from the linked PDF of the paper - is apparently unavailable.
The bottom line of the paper is summarised in the chart below. I think trump (with a deliberately small ‘t’) was in 5th category, so his brain function may have been reduced by half of a Standard Deviation due to his (supposed) Covid-19 infection. That’s a LOT! Pretty scary when you consider where his brain was beforehand. Hopefully not so serious for the general enlightened public who’ve been unlucky enough to contract the disease.
So maybe trump really did have a case of Covid-19. But that still doesn’t explain his loopy behaviour prior to infection.
Which reminds me ….
I’ve greatly enjoyed the 3 part BBC series about Greta Thunberg’s self-imposed year off school. Well worth watching. She’s an inspiration.
I particularly liked the contrast between her thoughtful comments and trump’s bombast at the 2020 World Economic Forum in Davos. She leaves him for dead. He was definitely the school child in the room (and that was before his bout). She too has apparently suffered a bout from Covid-19, but her brain still seems to work just fine. Maybe that’s because hers was a milder case, or perhaps because she started so far over the hump of the IQ bell-shaped curve.
Judging by trump’s strenuous efforts to keep his school reports secret, I suspect his IQ has always been in the lower half of that bell curve.
P.S. Greta’s not popular in some quarters in NZ (but not mine) at present because she’s just outed us to the world, showing that despite all the talk to the contrary, the numbers show that we’re not pulling our weight in reducing GHGs. More on that in a later posting.
P.P.S. We have our very own vocal climate denier fossil in nearby Dunedin. He will be one of those complainants. I don’t think we can blame Covid-19 in this case, but sadly his discredited views are again getting a bit of air time in the local newspaper. My advice is to just ignore the jock. He’ll eventually fade away …
